Art & Photography Playlist #12 The Band: When I Paint My Masterpiece

Songs about Art and Photography: a playlist. #12 The Band: When I Paint My Masterpiece (click to play; click here to play live version; click here to find version by Bob Dylan).
Bob Dylan, Two Sisters, 2008 (?)
Oh, the streets of Rome are filled with rubble
Ancient footprints are everywhere
You can almost think that you're seeing double
On a cold, dark night on the Spanish Stairs

Gotta hurry on back to my hotel room
Where I got me a date with a pretty little girl from Greece
She promised, she'd be there with me
When I paint my masterpiece

Oh, the hours we spent inside the Coliseum
Dodging lions, and a-wasting time
Oh, those mighty kings of the jungle, I could hardly stand to see 'em
Yes, it sure has been a long, hard drive

Train wheels are running through the back of my memory
When I ran on a hilltop following a pack of wild geese
Someday everything is gonna sound like a rhapsody
When I paint my masterpiece

Sailing round the world in a dirty gondola
Oh, to be back in the land of Coca-Cola

Well, I left Rome, and landed in Brussels
On a plane ride so bumpy that I almost cried
Clergy men in uniform and young girls pulling mussels
Everyone was there to greet me when I stepped inside

Newspaper man eating candy
Had to be held down by big police
But someday every thing's gonna be different
When I paint that masterpiece

Art and Photography Playlist #11 The Creation: Painter Man

Songs about Art and Photography: a playlist. #11 The Creation: Painter Man (click to play; click here to play cover version by Boney M!).
(Thanks to Waldemar Januszczak.)

Went to college, studied art
To be an artist, make a start
Studied hard, gained my degree
But no one seemed to notice me

Painter man, painter man
Who would be a painter man?
Painter man, painter man
Who would be a painter man?

Tried cartoons and comic books
Dirty postcards, woman's looks
Here was where the money lay
Classic art has had its day

Painter man, painter man
Who would be a painter man?
Painter man, painter man
Who would be a painter man?

Do adverts for TV
Household soap and brands of tea
Labels all around tin can
Who would be a painter man?

Painter man, painter man
Who would be a painter man?
Painter man, painter man
Who would be a painter man?

Umberto Boccioni, Unique Forms of Continuity in Space, 1913
Uno, due, tre, quattro ...

Marinetti, Boccioni, Carra, Balla, Palazzeschi!
Marinetti, Boccioni, Carra, Balla, Palazzeschi!
Futurist Manifesto!
Futurist Manifesto!

War is the world's only hygiene
Energy and fearlessness
Racing car the beauteous beast
Hurl defiance at the stars

Futurist Manifesto!
Futurist Manifesto!

Voices of animals... animals men!
Voices of animals... animals men!
(And the futurist theatre goes)

Marinetti, Boccioni, Carra, Balla, Palazzeschi!
Marinetti, Boccioni, Carra, Balla, Palazzeschi!
Futurist Manifesto!
Futurist Manifesto!

Noises obtained by percussion
Metal, wood on skin and bone
Voices of animals and men
Laugh and shout and scream and moan

Futurist Manifesto!
Futurist Manifesto!

Voices of animals... animals men!

(And the futurist theatre goes)

Art & Photography Playlist #9 Philip Glass: The Photographer

Songs about Art and Photography: a playlist. #9 Philip Glass: The Photographer (click to play A Gentleman's Honor (- Act 1); click here to play entire opera).
Eadweard Muybridge, Galloping Horse, 1878: movement reconstructed
All that white hair
A Gentleman's honour
And a long white beard
Burns up in fever

And this is artificial moonlight
An artificial sky

Horses in the air
Feet on the ground
Never seen
This picture before

And this is artificial moonlight
An artificial sky

Horses in the air
"Whose baby is this"
Never seen
This picture before

Art & Photography Playlist #8 (Theory subset #1) Gang of Four: Why Theory?

Songs about Art and Photography: a playlist. #8 (Theory subset #1) Gang of Four: Why Theory?  (click to play).
“Resolutely overthrow the Wang-Zhang-Jiang-Yao anti-party clique!”
(The Gang of Four - Wang Hongwen, Zhang Chunqiao, Jiang Qing and Yao Wenyuan)

We've all got opinions.
Where do they come from?
Each day seems like a natural fact,
and what we think changes how we act.

We've all got opinions.
Where do they come from?
Distant thunder from the east
won't disturb a morning car wash.

Each day seems like a natural fact,
and what we think changes how we act.
So to change ideas changes what we do.

Too much thinking makes me ill.
I think I'll have another gin.
A few more drinks and it'll be all right.

Each day seems like a natural fact,
and what we think changes how we act.
Each day seems like a natural fact.
Each day seems like a natural fact.
Each day seems like a natural fact.
Each day seems like a natural fact.

Art & Photography Playlist #7 David Bowie: Andy Warhol

Songs about Art and Photography: a playlist. #7 David Bowie: Andy Warhol  (click to play).
Andy Warhol, Self-Portrait, 1964
(This is Andy Warhol and it's take one, take one)
It's, it's Warhol actually
(What did I say?)
Hole, it's hole as in holes
(Andy Warhol)
What?, Andy War hol, Andy War hol
Like hole
He
Ha
Are you ready?
(Yeah)
Ha ha ha ha ha ha

Like to take a cement fix
Be a standing cinema
Dress my friends up just for show
See them as they really are
Put a peephole in my brain
Two New Pence to have a go
I'd like to be a gallery
Put you all inside my show

Andy Warhol looks a scream
Hang him on my wall
Andy Warhol, Silver Screen
Can't tell them apart at all

Andy walking, Andy tired
Andy take a little snooze
Tie him up when he's fast asleep
Send him on a pleasant cruise (hm hm hm)
When he wakes up on the sea
He sure to think of me and you
He'll think about paint and he'll think about glue
What a jolly boring thing to do

Andy Warhol looks a scream
Hang him on my wall
Andy Warhol, Silver Screen
Can't tell them apart at all

Andy Warhol looks a scream
Hang him on my wall
Andy Warhol, Silver Screen
Can't tell them apart at all
