Pablo
Picasso, Lee Miller as L’Arlesienne,
1937

There was a time when I
didn’t pay much attention to Picasso – his taken for granted ‘genius’ seemed to
make him a bit of a bore; however, of late, I have come to enjoy his work more
and more. Whenever I have come across a Picasso in mixed company his paintings
generally sing out with a richness of invention and virtuoso technique which
put the rest to shade. This exhibition of portraits looks
wonderful and includes nearly 80 works ranging right across the bewildering
ranges of styles he mastered through his long and prolific career.
